Guide

How Top Stocks Works

Top Stocks ranks equities by net institutional rupee flows — who is buying and selling, in crore rupees, from the latest regulatory filings. Filter by data source, market-cap bucket, and accumulation vs distribution.

2 Super Investors

Tracks marquee individual investors, family offices, and similar holders from quarterly shareholding pattern filings. Value change is measured in ₹ crore between the latest quarter and the prior one.

3 DII & FII

Aggregates Domestic Institutional Investors and Foreign Institutional Investors from quarterly shareholding data — mutual funds, insurance, banks, sovereign funds, and other regulated categories filing on Indian exchanges.

4 1% Club

Every non-promoter shareholder holding 1% or more of a listed company must appear in the quarterly shareholding pattern. We compare disclosed holding value quarter-on-quarter to surface where significant holders are adding or trimming.

How rupee flows and rankings are calculated

Bought, Sold, and Net (₹ Cr)

  • Bought — rupee value of new positions plus increases in existing holdings
  • Sold — rupee value of complete exits plus reductions in existing holdings
  • Net — Bought minus Sold for the comparison period

Accumulation vs Distribution

Accumulation shows the top 50 stocks with the highest positive net flow (net buyers). Distribution shows the top 50 with the largest negative net flow (net sellers).

Market-cap buckets

Stocks are grouped into Large, Mid, Small, and Micro cap using exchange market-cap classification on IPOFins. Rankings are computed within each bucket — a mid-cap name is not compared against large-cap flows.

Update frequency

  • Mutual Funds — latest monthly holdings-change period (AMC portfolio statements)
  • Super Investors, DII/FII, 1% Club — latest quarter with shareholding pattern data

All figures come from SEBI-mandated public filings. Rupee amounts reflect disclosed holding value changes, not live market orders. Not investment advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Top Stocks on IPOFins?
A ranked list of equities by net institutional rupee flow — how much money (in ₹ crore) moved into or out of each stock during the latest filing period. Use it to see where mutual funds, super investors, DIIs/FIIs, or 1% Club holders are collectively buying or selling, filtered by market-cap bucket.
How is Top Stocks different from Smart Money Tracker?
Smart Money Tracker focuses on mutual fund portfolio weight changes month-on-month (fresh entries, complete exits, most bought/sold by fund count). Top Stocks converts activity into rupee flows and supports four sources — not just mutual funds — so you can compare MF flows with super-investor or FII activity on the same stock.
What does Accumulation vs Distribution mean?
Accumulation ranks stocks where institutions were net buyers (positive net ₹ flow). Distribution ranks stocks where they were net sellers (negative net ₹ flow). Switch the Flow filter above the table to change views.
Why are amounts shown in crore rupees?
Holding disclosures report market value of positions. Converting to ₹ Cr makes it easier to compare flows across stocks with very different share prices and lot sizes. A ₹500 Cr net buy is a larger institutional bet than a ₹5 Cr net buy.
Which market-cap filter should I use?
Large-cap stocks have the deepest institutional coverage. Mid and small caps can show sharper flow swings but with fewer reporting holders. Micro-cap flows are the most volatile — treat them as exploratory, not consensus signals.
How often is Top Stocks updated?
Mutual fund data updates when new monthly AMC portfolio disclosures are ingested. Super investor, DII/FII, and 1% Club data updates each quarter after shareholding pattern filings. The period label above the table shows the active comparison window.
Is this investment advice?
No. Top Stocks summarizes public regulatory filings. Institutional buying does not guarantee future returns, and sellers may be rebalancing rather than exiting a thesis. Always do your own research.
